I was thinking about this today. I happened upon one of those ‘sharing my work until I find my audience’ posts and it was a lovely painting of a woman and bunches of flowers. Way outside what I can do. And I caught myself thinking:
That is so beautiful and professional. I could never do that.
My world is mixed media, art journaling, and mandalas. I can draw portraits if I wanted to, and maybe refine my technique. But it’s not….impressive?
Because that is what I think. “That work is impressive.”
But so is mine. And yours.
Even if you never share any of your art, you’re an artist. There’s a ton I haven’t shared because it’s not the style I became known for, and so I’ve been afraid of rejection. But I create a lot. And share it with my family and friends. They love it. I’m even crocheting a bag for a friend from church.
So I guess what I’m saying is wear your work, or make stickers and slap them on water bottles, or just become the customer who talks a lot to the shop workers because she lives alone and has been in a flare….I do that a lot. I even brought one of the Tim’s Studio lumos detail brushes I got to my favorite manager. I got a sticker in return.
Hand stuff out. People will love it. And those interactions mean more than anything online.
See you later!
